Botanical Name: Lemon (Citrus limon)

Sources: The lemon tree is believed to be a native of India. It is produced in the Mediterranean, North and South America, and Australia. It is mainly cultivated in California, Florida, and southern Europe. The lemon tree is a relatively small tree growing between 9 to 15 feet tall. Quality essential oil is typically cold pressed using the outer fruit rind.

History: The lemon tree was brought to Europe during the middle ages by the Crusaders. In 1493, Columbus introduced and brought back with him the lemon and orange seeds to the West Indies, and unbeknownst, founded the worlds largest lemon industry.

Therapeutic Properties: Antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiscorbotic, antiseptic, astringent, disinfectant, expectorant and sedative. Traditionally used in Europe to fend off major epidemic diseases. Lemon became known as an effective antiscorbotic supplied on English ships to prevent Scurvy in seaman on long voyages. Ideal home remedy to relieve colds and flu.




Botanical Name: Lime (Citrus aurantifolia)

Sources : Lime is a small evergreen tree originating from northern India. Key Lime and Persian Limes are the two main types of limes and can be either expressed or distilled to obtain the oil. The cold pressed lime is mostly used in perfumery and aromatherapy.

History : Limes were first introduced to America by Spanish and Portuguese explorers in approximately the 16th century. The Arabs introduced limes from India at and around the same time as oranges and lemons.

Therapeutic Properties : Similar to lemon, lime can conjure up a feeling of freshness, cleanliness, and is spiritually uplifting. Limes share numerous medicinal qualities as lemon and were used to repel scurvy among the British Navy.

It can also stimulate and strengthen a bodys' immune system.

Sources : Ginger A tropical perennial herb cultivated in many tropical and subtropical countries, but originally from India. Ginger is mostly produced by steam distillation.

History : Ginger Ginger made its way to Europe in the Middle Ages as a common a helpful remedy to counter the plaque. The Greeks and Romans highly valued ginger and it was known to be used by the Egyptians.

The ginger shape shows under the ”Doctrine of Signatures”, a notable affinity with the digestive system. Dioscorides, a Greek Physician, recommended Gingers use as an effective digestive stimulant. In China, the first known use of ginger was by ”Confucius” in 500 BC.

Therapeutic Properties : Ginger Ginger has stimulating, fortifying, and warming properties. It is considered effective for poor circulation, fatigue, and notable in treatment of digestive complaints.
