Sources: Lemongrass is originally from India and Sri Lanka. Cymbopogon citratus is the plant species commonly known as West Indian Lemongrass. Major producers of West Indian Lemongrass include: Guatemala, Madagascar, The Comoros Islands, Brazil, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Lemongrass is a fast growing tall and stiff perennial grass growing to approximately 3 feet tall.
History: A majority of the oil is used for citral production commonly used for perfumery and or flavor uses. India has long used it in Ayurvedic Medicine to treat fevers and infectious diseases. It is one of the best selling essential oils due to the affordable price and wealth of uses.
