Botanical Name:Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)

Sources:The orange tree is thought to be a native of the area between the Himalayas’ and southwestern China. Major production areas of the orange essential oil come from Sicily, Israel, Brazil, Spain, North America, and Australia. Sweet orange is an evergreen tree and a smaller tree than the bitter orange tree. The leaves are of dark green, white flowers, and the vibrant orange fruit with a rough outer skin.

History:The therapeutic properties of sweet orange essential oil was first recognized in China where the dried orange peel had been used to treat cough and colds. Sweet orange was cultivated in China for centuries before being introduced to Europe around the 15th or 16th Century.

Therapeutic Properties:Commonly used in child remedies for sleeping or upset tummies, skin regenerative properties, antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, digestive, sedative, stomachic, and lymphatic stimulant.


Botanical Name:Clove (Syzygium aromaticum)

Sources:Clove is native to Indonesia and the Malacca Islands. It is an evergreen that reaches approximately 30 feet in height. The flower buds are described as nail shaped and a crimson color. Upon being harvested, the buds turn a deep red brown color.

History:Clavis” is the Latin word meaning nail shaped. Clove was a much sought after commodity in the spice trade by the Greeks and Romans.

Therapeutic Properties:Analgesic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, anti-neuralgic, carminative, anti-infectious, disinfectant, and insecticide. Eugenol, the main constituent found in clove is used in dental care for numbing teeth or reducing pain.
